The Town Crier

News travels. Deeds endure.

◆

The Town Crier carries the public word of Katarra: victories worth remembering, opportunities still waiting for brave hands, dangers moving across the world, and the consequences of matters left unresolved.

What appears here is meant to reflect events that are publicly knowable within the world. As Katarra grows, these proclamations will be drawn from real game events and voiced in-world by the Town Crier himself.

Today's Proclamations

Four voices of the world
I

The Chronicle

Recent deeds and completed adventures that have passed from rumor into remembered history. Victories, discoveries, public acts, and the names of those whose deeds became known may be recorded here.

In time: Completed quests and significant player actions will become short historical accounts.
II

Open Threads

Active quests, bounties, rumors, investigations, expeditions, missing persons, strange sightings, and other opportunities that remain open to those willing to pursue them.

In time: Players will be able to discover opportunities here before seeking their source in the world.
III

World Events

Events large enough to affect settlements, roads, factions, regions, or the wider world: invasions, festivals, disasters, political changes, migrations, strange phenomena, and other developing situations.

In time: These notices will change as the underlying world event advances.
IV

Unresolved History

Calls that went unanswered, quests that failed, threats that escaped, mysteries abandoned, and problems whose consequences continued after players walked away.

Remember: Katarra does not promise that an ignored problem will wait forever.
The Crier is being prepared for his post. This first version establishes the public-facing structure. The eventual in-game AI Town Crier will receive structured, publicly knowable facts from the game and turn them into period-style proclamations rather than inventing new canon.

How a Story Travels

Opportunity

A rumor, contract, threat, or request first appears among the Open Threads.

Change

If events grow beyond a single task, the matter may become a World Event and begin affecting the surrounding world.

Consequence

Success may enter The Chronicle. Failure, abandonment, or inaction may instead leave something behind in Unresolved History.
